Hosting QuickBooks Desktop with RightWorks

Overview
If your QuickBooks Desktop company file is hosted with RightWorks, your Biller Genie setup differs from a local QuickBooks Desktop installation and includes important limitations.
Biller Genie supports syncing in RightWorks environments using MagicCarpet, our recommended sync application.
While some customers may still be using Web Connector–based syncing, Biller Genie does not support troubleshooting Web Connector setups in RightWorks environments.
IMPORTANT!
RightWorks restricts how third-party applications interact with QuickBooks Desktop. As a result:
- Web Connector–based syncing may exist, but troubleshooting is not supported by Biller Genie
- All Web Connector troubleshooting must be completed manually and with RightWorks assistance
- MagicCarpet is the only sync method fully supported by Biller Genie in RightWorks
If your RightWorks plan does not allow third-party applications to be downloaded and configured, syncing options will be limited.
Supported Sync Options in RightWorks
MagicCarpet (Recommended and Supported)
MagicCarpet is Biller Genie’s preferred and supported sync tool for RightWorks environments.
MagicCarpet provides:
- Improved sync reliability
- Better handling of hosted environment limitations
- Support from the Biller Genie team
MagicCarpet requires:
- A RightWorks upgraded plan that allows third-party applications to be downloaded and configured
- Approval from RightWorks to install the application
- A Windows user actively logged in
- QuickBooks Desktop accessible to that user
Web Connector (Limited Support)
Some RightWorks customers may still be using Web Connector–based syncing.
However:
- Biller Genie does not support troubleshooting Web Connector setups in RightWorks
- All configuration, errors, and failures must be addressed manually
- Assistance must come directly from RightWorks support

Step 1: Confirm Your RightWorks Plan
Before proceeding, confirm whether your RightWorks plan allows third-party applications to be downloaded and configured.
Contact RightWorks Support and ask them to confirm:
- Your current plan level
- Whether third-party applications such as MagicCarpet are permitted
This will determine which sync option is available to you.
Step 2: Request MagicCarpet Installation (If Supported)
If your plan allows third-party applications:
- Log in to your RightWorks account
- Start a support chat or open a ticket
- Use the following request:
Please install the MagicCarpet application from Biller Genie on my RightWorks server. This is an approved external application required for syncing with QuickBooks Desktop.
Once installed, you may proceed with connecting Biller Genie using MagicCarpet.
Multiple QuickBooks Company Files in RightWorks
If syncing with multiple QuickBooks company files:
- QuickBooks Desktop must remain open
- QuickBooks Desktop is open to the Company File Select screen
Leaving QuickBooks open at the company file selection screen allows MagicCarpet to sync with multiple files as needed.
You may request that QuickBooks Desktop automatically opens upon login by contacting RightWorks Support.

RightWorks can confirm your plan level, whether third-party applications are permitted, and assist with installation or environment-level changes as needed.
