Overview
Check Processing in Biller Genie allows businesses to convert paper checks into digital images for electronic submission through the banking network.
Instead of physically transporting checks to a bank branch, checks can be scanned or photographed and processed electronically using:
- Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) with a compatible check scanner
- Mobile Check Capture using a mobile device
If you have not yet enabled Check Processing, refer to:
This article explains how Check Processing works and what to expect once it is active.
How Traditional Check Deposits Work
With traditional check deposits:
- A business receives a paper check
- The check is physically transported to a bank
- The check enters the clearing process
- Funds are deposited after processing
This process may involve physical transportation and manual handling before clearing.
How Electronic Check Processing Works
With RDC or Mobile Check Capture:
- A business receives a paper check
- The check image is captured digitally
- The image is transmitted through the banking network
- Funds are deposited after standard settlement timelines
The check is converted into an electronic format that includes:
- Front and back image of the check
- Routing number
- Account number
- Check amount
Processing Timeframes
Electronic check processing follows standard banking settlement timelines.
Most check transactions are funded within 3–5 business days, depending on your merchant service provider and bank policies.
