When you upgrade from the original Automatic Batch Reconciliation add-on to ABR v2, Biller Genie checks your Sweep account as part of the upgrade. If it is holding leftover funds from earlier reconciliation activity, the upgrade window shows you the exact amounts and can clean them up for you automatically. This article explains what you will see. It applies to QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop connections.
What the upgrade window shows
Biller Genie reads your Sweep account balance live from your accounting software and compares it to the payments that are genuinely in flight. Anything left over is residue from the old system. The window shows that amount as a simple debit and credit table, using your own account names, exactly as it will post to your books: the leftover amount moves out of Sweep and into your settlement bank account, so you start ABR v2 with a clean Sweep.

The "Zero-out sweep accounts" toggle
The toggle is on by default. Leave it on and the clearing entry posts automatically during the upgrade. Turn it off and nothing posts: no entry is created and the balances panel disappears, because there is nothing to explain. The entry you see in the table is always exactly what posts, with the same accounts and amounts.
With the toggle off, nothing will post, so the balances panel is hidden entirely.
If we can't reach your QuickBooks
QuickBooks Online is read instantly. QuickBooks Desktop connects through the Magic Carpet connector, and if it is offline you will be offered two choices: Sync from QuickBooks to retry the connection, or Enter it manually to type your Sweep balance straight from QuickBooks. The Upgrade button stays disabled until one of them succeeds, unless you turn the toggle off, in which case no balance is needed.
If your Sweep is short instead
Sometimes the Sweep account holds less than your in-flight payments. In that case the window shows a "Sweep balance shortfall" entry and the movement flips: the difference moves from your settlement bank account into Sweep so everything reconciles cleanly. This is handled by the same toggle.
Frequently asked questions
Will this change my past bookkeeping?
No. Nothing is backdated. The upgrade posts at most one clearing entry, dated at the time of the upgrade, and you see it before you confirm.
What if I want to keep the balance where it is?
Turn the toggle off. Nothing posts, and you can handle the balance with your bookkeeper later.
I use QuickBooks Desktop v3. Why does my upgrade look different?
The balance check supports QuickBooks Online and the Magic Carpet (v4) connector. On older Desktop connections the upgrade works as before, and our team can help you tidy the Sweep balance afterward.
