If you use a percentage-based discount on an invoice that syncs from QuickBooks Desktop, the discount line on your Biller Genie invoice may show a blank Quantity and Unit Price. This is expected. Your invoice total is still correct and the discount is still applied. Here is why it happens and two ways to display the discount amount.
What you will see
- Percentage discount from QuickBooks Desktop: the discount line shows a blank Quantity and Unit Price. The discount amount is still subtracted from the invoice total.
- Fixed (flat-dollar) discount from QuickBooks Desktop: the discount line displays its amount in the Unit Price column as normal.
- QuickBooks Online (either type): the discount appears as a single Discount line in the invoice totals rather than a unit price on a line, and it always displays.
Why a percentage discount can look blank
QuickBooks Desktop sends a percentage discount as a calculated dollar amount, without a unit price or quantity for that line. Biller Genie displays the values QuickBooks provides, so the Quantity and Unit Price columns are empty for a percentage discount line. The discount amount itself is still applied to your invoice total.
How to show the discount amount
You have two options.
Option 1: Turn on Show Total
- Go to Control Panel and open Invoice Defaults.
- Turn on Show Total.
- Save your settings.
The discount's dollar amount will now appear in the Total column of the line.
Option 2: Use a fixed-dollar discount in QuickBooks
Set up the discount in QuickBooks Desktop as a fixed (flat) dollar amount instead of a percentage. Fixed-dollar discounts display their amount in the Unit Price column automatically.
Good to know: your invoice total is always correct, whether or not the discount line shows a unit price. Only the line detail differs.
